Morgan State has been an integral part of the Maryland system of education for more than 140 years, and has been official designated as Maryland’s Public Urban University. Morgan State University’s School of Architecture and Planning addresses the social, environmental, physical, economic, and political issues shaping urban communities and form from a multidisciplinary perspective.
The program strives for relevance and its location in Baltimore, Maryland brings students into direct contact with urban issues and people. It offers three graduate programs (architecture landscape architecture and city and regional planning) and a bachelor of science in architecture and environmental design (currently not accredited). For over 25 years, Morgan State’s School of Architecture and Planning has educated students in critical issues of urban architecture and supported metropolitan Baltimore and the State of Maryland in planning and design.
In 2009, 122 Morgan State volunteers helped to rebuild the YMCA playground at Stadium Place in East Baltimore, destroyed by fire in the fall of 2008. Team Morgan shoveled, hammered and nailed, and cut wood to build playground amenities. It reopened in July, 2009.
