DV1: Standards for Universal Design

Project Co-Directors: Edward Steinfeld, ArchD, AIA; and Danise Levine, RA, AIA

This project will develop voluntary consensus UD standards in partnership with the Global Universal Design Commission (GUDC). It will produce new prototype consensus standards as well as continue support for advancing the adoption of the current Commercial Building Standards in practice.

Goals:

  • Research and draft standards for submission to consensus committees and evaluate the usability of prototype standards
  • Identify potential barriers to adoption of standards
  • Identify strategies to improve standards prior to general launch
  • Improve mandatory accessibility standards

DV2: Product Development for Knowledge Transfer

Project Coordinator: Edward Steinfeld, ArchD, AIA

This project will develop exemplar products through a series of creative Partnerships. We will work with business partners to leverage outputs from RERC research projects and other knowledge sources to develop and test at least three new prototype products and move at least three other existing prototypes to the production phase.

Goals:

  • Work collaboratively to help Partners develop and evaluate innovative product prototypes
  • Apply the Need to Knowledge (NTK) model, and provide case studies on the model’s effectiveness
