Overview
We all know first hand how easily streets and buildings in the winter can make performing even the simplest activities hard. Whether it is making our way through sidewalks covered with slush, using street crossings at intersections or just going up a ramp when it is cold, good design can ensure that these activities are easier for all of us.

A research team at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute in Toronto is currently conducting a study of winter influences on outdoor activity at different public settings (e.g. sidewalks, curb ramps and crosswalks). This study is being run by the iDAPT Technology R&D Team through the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Universal Design and the Built Environment (RERC-UD) with funding provided by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).

This study involves a survey to look at how the winter weather alters the properties of public settings and how these changes affect people's routine activities in the winter. The survey identifies activities that are a problem for people in these public settings in the winter. If requested this survey can be provided in print.

The survey takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes to complete. You will be eligible for a random drawing to win one of three $100 prizes. Prizes will be awarded at the completion of the study.
